How this course works
One barrio, one story, one cast — running from your first Spanish word to conversations you can actually hold. Here is what happens inside an episode, and why it works.
One neighbourhood that never resets
Every episode happens in the same few streets: Rosa’s café, the market stalls, Don Beto’s kiosk. Because the place and the eight people in it carry over, each episode opens with context you already have — so the only genuinely new thing in it is a little more Spanish.
Comprehensible from the first minute
You are never dropped into Spanish you can’t follow. Lucía sets the scene in English, the cast then speaks Spanish you’ve been prepared for, and anything new is carried by the picture, the repetition and the situation itself. You understand most of it and reach for the rest — that gap is where a language is actually acquired.
You speak in every single episode
“Say it with me” beats stop the story and wait for you. Say the line out loud — badly, alone in your kitchen, it doesn’t matter. What matters is your mouth learning the shape of the sound. Learners who only ever listen stay silent for years.
Spaced review, hidden inside the plot
A phrase you meet in episode 3 comes back in 4, then 6, then 11 — never as a drill, always because somebody in the barrio needs to say it again. Every few lessons a Repaso episode retells the whole story so far entirely in Spanish. That episode is usually the moment learners realise how much they already understand.
The mistakes English speakers really make
Each lesson names the specific trap your first language sets for you: ser versus estar, false friends like embarazada, the Spanish r that is nothing like an English r. Catching a trap the first time it appears stops it hardening into a habit you’ll fight for years.
