Your learning progress stays in your browser

Ticking a lesson as complete and choosing light or dark mode are stored in your browser's own localStorage — on your device, never sent to us. There is no login, so we have no way to associate progress with a person. Clearing your browser data clears it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-PRK0M7X64V) to see which lessons people actually watch and where they drop off, which is how we decide what to make next. It sets Google's own cookies and records the usual page, referrer, approximate location and device data. We never upload names or email addresses to it. You can block it with any content blocker or Google's opt-out add-on, and the site works fine without it.

The newsletter form

If you enter an email to get new lessons, we store that address (plus which course you signed up from, the time, and your browser's user-agent string) on our own server. We use it only to send Fablingo lesson notifications. It is not sold, rented or shared. Reply to any email, or write to hello@fablingo.academy, and we delete it.

The corrections form

Submitting a correction on /contribute/ sends us your message, the page URL, your browser's user-agent, and your email only if you chose to enter one. It's read by a human, used to fix the course, and kept so we can reply. Nothing else.

Videos and hosting

Lessons are YouTube videos. We embed them through youtube-nocookie.com and don't load the player until you click, so YouTube receives nothing until you actually start a video — at which point Google's own privacy policy applies. The site itself is static, hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes request logs as our infrastructure provider. Search on this site runs entirely in your browser over a prebuilt index — your queries are never sent anywhere.

The Android app

The same courses are available as a free Android app (Fablingo, on Google Play). It works differently from the site in ways worth stating plainly. There is no account, and nothing to sign up for — progress, streaks, saved phrases and settings live only in a local database on your device, and we have no way to see them. The app can listen to you say a phrase back and score you on it using your phone's own on-device speech recognition; neither the audio nor the recognised text is ever uploaded, logged, or sent anywhere, including to us. Reminders are scheduled entirely on your device — there is no push notification service, and nothing about your usage reaches us to generate them. The only network requests the app makes are fetching course content and playing videos through the same privacy-enhanced YouTube player as the site. No ads, no analytics SDK, no advertising ID, no crash-reporting service.

Children

These are language courses for a general audience. We don't knowingly collect anything from children, and we ask for nothing beyond an optional email address.

Getting your data removed

Email hello@fablingo.academy and we'll delete your address and any correction you sent. Since there are no accounts, that's the whole of what we hold.
